How should I hold my cat while grooming her?

cat grooming

Though cats groom themselves regularly, a little help from you can keep your cat looking her best. But sometimes grooming can be a stressful task, especially when you’re caring for your cat’s nails, ears, and teeth.

To make grooming easier on you and your cat, exercise your pet first so she is tired and relaxed. Then hold her firmly between your knees while brushing her back and head. To reach her legs and stomach, hold her against your chest. Wrap your cat firmly but gently in a blanket or towel while you work on her nails, ears, or teeth. This can calm her down and keep her from scratching you! If she becomes overly anxious during grooming, pause and continue later. Your veterinarian can provide more tips.
