Scoopable cat litter is a great invention. Used properly, it can result in a cleaner litter box environment and help reduce the incidence of behavioral problems related to inappropriate urination.

When urine comes into contact with the litter, it forms a tight little clump. This clump of litter can be scooped out and discarded, leaving clean, un-clumped litter in the box. Urine clumps should be scooped out of the litter box every day, along with solid waste. After removing clumps, you will need to add more litter to keep it at the optimal depth.

It's a good idea to clean the entire litter box with mild soap and hot water about once a month. An unclean box has the potential to repel a cat, encouraging the development of inappropriate urinary behavior.
