CAT & KITTEN NUTRITION
What your cat's trying to tell you about her nutritional needs
If your cat has a scruffy coat or warm, dry nose, she may not be getting the nutrients she needs.
Not only do cats' nutritional needs call for more fat and protein than dog food provides, but dog food does not contain taurine. Taurine is an essential nutrient for cat. Eating a diet without taurine, over an extended time would likely cause health issues for a cat.
Proper cat nutrition begins with a complete and balanced diet. Choose a food that offers cats the nutrition they need at every age, such as one of the Purina® brand cat foods.
People food can cause your cat to become finicky and is not likely to meet her nutritional needs.
“If your cat prefers water from the toilet, a puddle or pond, it may be because the water in her dish tastes bad.”
Snacks/treats should never take the place of a balanced diet. Save them for special occasions.
Contrary to popular belief, feeding cow's milk to kittens is a bad idea. Drinking milk will often cause diarrhea in cats, since most cats are lactose intolerant.
Fresh water must always be available to your cat. If your cat prefers water from the toilet, a puddle or pond, it may be because the water in her dish tastes bad. Try substituting bottled or boiled water or adding a little club soda. Cats love carbonation.
