Meet Dr. Pia Salk

Dr. Pia Salk is a psychologist, animal welfare advocate, and spokesperson for the TIDY CATS Campaign to End Cattiness. As an expert on the human-animal bond and a multiple cat parent herself, Pia frequently highlights the important role that companion animals play in our lives. In fact, she often credits the animals as being “the real therapists.”

Pia also is a writer and the spokesperson for
www.Adopt-A-Pet.com, North America's largest non-profit pet adoption website. She is a professor in the area of diversity and family systems and a frequent guest on national radio programs where she offers her perspective on pets as family members. Her extensive involvement in animal rescue efforts and her expertise on animal welfare have been featured on national shows such as Animal Planet's “Hurricane Heroes,” ABC's “20/20,” and The Martha Stewart show to name a few.

Pia is the niece of polio vaccine developer Jonas Salk and daughter of bestselling author and psychologist Lee Salk. She resides in Los Angeles, California, with her multiple adopted pets, including her three cats Max, Olive, and Chauncy.
